as in the first leg, dudelange struggled to break down the visitors' defence before the interval despite dominating possession for long periods. bryan melisse was a particular thorn in santa coloma's side with his marauding runs from midfield but the hosts must have feared that a night of frustration awaited when jean-sébastien legros, who scored in the first leg, crashed a shot against the bar seven minutes into the second half.
three minutes later coach daniel theis sent on abdullei and the substitution reaped rewards as the nigerian forward planted jean-philippe caillet's cross past ricardo fernández five minutes after his introduction. three aggregate goals to the good, dudelange could now relax but abdullei remained sharp, pouncing again a minute from time after a neat passing move involving legros and daniel da mota.
