opening salvos ıt was the home side who began the match the brighter and could have opened the scoring in the 14th minute. panionios midfielder manolis scoufalis fouled andreas lasnik who just cleared the crossbar from the resulting free-kick. the away side responded and created a good opening four minutes later when rafik djebbour found space on the left edge of the penalty area but his shot was saved by sašo fornezzi. both sides had long-range attempts at goal as the half wore on but neither goalkeeper was seriously tested.
dramatic winner the second half was a more open affair and panionios enjoyed the better chances. fanourios goundoulakis missed a good opportunity in the 63rd minute meeting an inswinging corner from nikos spiropoulos but directing his header over. the visitors then went close again this time through majstorovic who had a close-range header well saved. however, the winner finally arrived right at the death when dario fernandez picked out fellow midfielder majstorovic with an intelligent cross from the left flank which the german-born player despatched past fornezzi.
